Artificial Analysis revised its model ranking system to use more private tests and different task weights that better match real usage patterns. The firm reports the gap between the overall leader and the best open-weight model grew from three points to twelve points under the new system.
Under the updated methodology the highest-scoring publicly released weights reached only 32 points while Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 scored 58. Even Anthropic's smaller Claude Haiku 5.5 outperformed every open-weight model in the revised ranking.
Sridhar Ramaswamy noted on X that the day benchmarks went private the open-model gap expanded from three to twelve points. Nathan Lambert of Trillium Labs stated the prior index had flattered open-weight models too strongly.
The new results apply especially to complex scientific tasks. Open-weight models remain competitive in coding according to the same evaluation.
