What is deep autonomy? Autonomy with custody, in plain terms
"Deep autonomy" is our label for agents working unattended under a signed grant. Phantom's README calls it autonomy with custody. Here is what it covers.
The field note
Most AI coding help works like a conversation. You ask, the agent answers, you decide. Deep autonomy is the next step: you hand over a goal and the agents keep working while you are away. "Deep autonomy" is our own plain label. Phantom's README calls the same thing "autonomy with custody", and that is the phrase to search for in the docs.
The word that matters is custody. Before anything runs unattended, you sign a standing grant with Touch ID. The README says the grant names the repositories, the engines, limits on how much change is allowed, and spending. Agents work only in repositories you enrolled, under the grant you signed.
