Phantom for beginners: the words you will see
A plain-English guide to Phantom: what it is, what Work with me and Work for me mean, what Leader and Manager do, and a safe first 15 minutes.
The field note
Phantom is a workbench for AI coding agents. It is open source and made by Ashlr. The idea is simple. Many people now use more than one agent, such as Claude Code, Codex, Grok or Devin, plus models that run on their own computer. Phantom puts them in one app, so you can see what each one is doing and what it changed.
Start with two modes. "Work with me" is a chat. You describe a task in a project, an agent works on it, and you steer. "Work for me" is for goals. You write what you want done and how to tell when it is finished, and a fleet of agents works on it while you review. The README says switching between the two does not start work or change what agents are allowed to do.
