A useful phone agent has to do more than sound convincing. It must understand the caller, look something up, take the right action and recover when the caller changes their mind. On October 20, Mistral introduced Voxtral 3, a speech-model family and voice-agent development kit aimed at joining those steps together.
Mistral says the kit is built on LiveKit and connects transcription, a reasoning model, tool calls and speech generation in a streaming pipeline. The components remain separate, so teams can change the language model or voice. That makes the announcement a workflow story, not just a new voice to listen to.
The deployment details deserve a careful read. The announcement’s final section says the API is available through European, US and global endpoints. It directs organizations that want the full stack on their own infrastructure to contact Mistral. A self-deployment option is not the same as a public download with settled terms.
Mistral also publishes speech-quality and latency comparisons. Those are the company’s reported evaluations. We have not tested the stack, and a fluent demo cannot establish that an agent handles a difficult customer request correctly.
