Anthropic announced Claude Duet on October 21 as a research preview competitor to Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots. Built on Claude Opus 5.5, it is designed to provide morning briefs and check connected apps for items it judges need attention.
Access starts with US Pro and Max subscribers who receive a waitlist invitation. Duet runs in standalone iOS and Android apps and on claude.ai. It shares the subscriber’s existing Claude usage limits, including work done during background checks; joining the waitlist does not guarantee an access date.
Users can assign tasks directly. Anthropic says Duet waits for approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting anything. Trading securities and moving money between accounts are off-limits even with approval. These boundaries matter when choosing a task to delegate.
Anthropic warns that this early version can misread a thread or misjudge urgency. The announcement does not provide a task-completion benchmark. Its stated safeguards are product claims, rather than independent evidence that the agent will handle a particular organization’s work correctly.
